Former Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg likely to plead guilty

According to individuals familiar with the discussions, former Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg has struck a deal with prosecutors and is set to submit a guilty plea in a criminal tax fraud case that also involves the firm of former President Donald Trump.

Weisselberg is not anticipated to give information on Trump or the firm as part of the agreement, which stipulates that prosecutors will request a five-month jail term.

The New York Times and the New York Daily News broke the news of the arrangement first.

Weisselberg and the corporation petitioned Judge Juan Merchan of the New York County Supreme Court to dismiss all fifteen counts of criminal fraud and tax evasion against them. On August 12, Merchan rejected their requests, maintaining all allegations against Weisselberg and all but one against the firm.

Weisselberg’s attorneys and a representative for Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg refused to comment.

On October 24, jury selection was slated to commence for a trial. Although the arrangement exempts Weisselberg from a criminal prosecution, the Trump Organization has not struck a comparable agreement, and jury selection is still set.

In July 2021, the Trump Organization was accused of offering expensive untaxed benefits to its executives, which prosecutors termed “indirect employee pay.” The 75-year-old Weisselberg, who had worked with Trump for decades, was accused of collecting $1.7 million in benefits, including an apartment and a vehicle.
