The Senior Special Assistant to former President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, recently expressed his pride in his former principal.
Reflecting on his experience working with Buhari, Shehu revealed that the former president had the ability to go on stage with a prepared speech, only to set the script aside and speak from his heart.
Shehu emphasized that the Buhari administration was consistently transparent and forthright when addressing matters of national importance.
He believed that maintaining honesty was crucial, as falling short of the standards of character and integrity would lead to an unforgivable loss of public trust.
Shehu proudly stated his admiration for his boss, who he regarded as someone entirely above scandal.
He also highlighted how President Buhari would occasionally deviate from prepared speeches to speak genuinely and sincerely.
Shehu believed these unscripted moments showcased the authenticity and freedom that leaders, including Buhari, should have to express their thoughts and feelings.
When asked if he had any regrets working with Buhari during his eight years in office, Shehu replied that he had none.

Regarding criticisms faced by the administration, Shehu mentioned a quote from Lai Mohammed, the former Minister of Information and Culture, who said it is easier to awaken a person genuinely asleep than someone pretending to be asleep.
Shehu recognized that negative news sells and that media outlets often perpetuated misperceptions, despite efforts to counter them.
He believed that those who were misled by such reporting were now facing the consequences of their own gullibility.
