Former European Ryder Cup player Barry Lane has passed away

Barry Lane, a former Ryder Cup player, passed away at the age of 62 following a brief illness.

According to The Guardian, Lane, a five-time DP World Tour champion and an eight-time Legends Tour champion, has made 693 DP World Tour appearances and is fourth on the all-time list.

In 1993, he was a member of Bernard Gallacher’s Ryder Cup team that was defeated by the United States 15-13 at The Belfry.

Lane was in Mauritius in December for the 2022 Legends Tour’s season-ending MCB Tour Championship, when he presented Brazil’s Adilson Da Silva with the renamed Barry Lane Rookie of the Year trophy.

“We are profoundly grieved to learn about Barry Lane’s demise. His success on both the European Tour and the Legends Tour demonstrates his commitment to the game of golf, and he was a beloved figure on both tours, according to European Tour group chief executive Keith Pelley.

The renaming of the Rookie of the Year trophy on the Legends Tour in his honor is a worthy tribute, and I’m glad he was able to present it in December.
