Sanusi Supports CBN’s Bold Move:
Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has expressed strong support for the controversial decision by the apex bank to relocate some of its departments and units from Abuja to Lagos.
Despite the mixed reactions and open opposition from some northern stakeholders, Sanusi believes that the move is sensible and should be implemented without succumbing to political pressure.

In response to the outcry against the relocation plans, Sanusi dismissed the opposition as mere “dirty politics.”
He revealed that he had similar intentions during his tenure as the CBN Governor but was unable to carry them out.

Sanusi outlined his perspective on the matter, suggesting that certain functions, such as FSS and most operations, should be moved to Lagos, considering its larger office space compared to Abuja.

Addressing the issue of potential staff resistance, Sanusi emphasized that moving staff to the Lagos office for increased efficiency and reduced costs is a prerogative of management.
He noted that some employees prioritize their Abuja lifestyle and businesses over their roles at the CBN, underscoring the need for the Governor to make decisions in the best interest of the bank’s future.
Appeal for Empathy in Consideration:
Sanusi appealed for empathy in the decision-making process, suggesting that special consideration be given to staff with genuine reasons to stay in Abuja, such as young mothers with school-going children or those with medical conditions.
He stressed the importance of a proper analysis to identify roles suited to Lagos and Abuja and urged against bending to political pressure.
Advice for the Governor:
Sanusi’s advice to the current CBN Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, is to go ahead with the policy, cautioning against succumbing to political pressure.
He urged the Governor to prioritize strategic decision-making over tactical concerns, emphasizing that noise from ethnic and religious quarters should be ignored.
Sanusi emphasized the challenging nature of the job and the need for the Governor to be resolute in implementing necessary changes.
