With the price of the best instant coffee brands rising by over a fifth in a year, coffee enthusiasts are experiencing a “Costa living” dilemma.

At four stores, prices for five well-liked jars, including those made by Kenco and L’Or, have increased by an average of 19%.

Tesco has started putting security tags on jars of coffee because the price has gotten so high.

Other companies use “shrinkflation.” According to the Sunday Times, little jars of Nescafe Azera are now 90g instead of 100g, yet prices in most supermarkets remained the same.

Customers have already criticized Costa, a chain of coffee shops, for its second significant price increase in as many months.

Following an increase of about 15p for several drinks in November, certain drinks last month saw a 30p increase.

The main cause, according to Carlos Mera of the Dutch bank Rabobank, was bad weather in Brazil’s arabica regions. Despite the exceptionally dry weather, there was a frost.

Shipping costs, weather, and inflation, according to Ocado, are to blame for coffee inflation reaching a ten-year high. According to Nescafe, “increases in raw materials” are happening.

Tea bags and milk prices have increased as well. RSM auditor Thomas Pugh stated: “In May, food price inflation was roughly 8.5 percent. This will increase to 15% over the summer.
