Fitness blogger Bradley Martyn’s weightlifting prank on TikTok goes viral

A since-deleted TikTok video of fitness blogger Bradley Martyn doing a weightlifting stunt that, according to Martyn, required 10 stitches in his mouth went viral.

Insider saw the video, which had 17.2 million views on TikTok before it was taken down; however, a secondary YouTube post of the material is still accessible. It shows Martyn reclining on a piece of exercise gear and grasping a bumper plate, a high-density rubber weight. Then a lady climbs up onto the weight, and Martyn tries to get her off, but she lands on top of him and kicks him in the face.

On September 22, Martyn uploaded the video to his TikTok page with the caption: “POV: DROPPING UR PHONE ON YOUR FACE.”

Martyn appears in several films where he does extraordinary exercises and stunts, such as a tug-of-war match with a tiger and lifting and wrestling with an animal corpse.

Martyn attempted the same act again in a subsequent TikTok video, and this time he succeeded in raising the lady again without her losing her balance. Martyn said in the description of the video, “This is what I anticipated. I made two mistakes here. Use a bumper plate and make her spin around.”

On his YouTube account, Martyn posted a follow-up video where he discussed the incident.

He stated: “I attempted to raise a female. Having said that, I’ve pushed a female who had previously sat on a plate. However, when someone suggested that she stand up, I said, “Yeah, that’s okay, that’s simple.””

Martyn said that lifting her with a rubber bumper plate rather than a steel one was a “mistake” since bumper plates are more difficult to balance on.

After the prank, Martyn said he had to wait four hours at a nearby hospital center to have “10 stitches” inside his mouth.

Martyn is by no means the first TikToker to hurt himself while looking for a popular video.

On TikTok, videos with the tag “injury while lifting weights” have gotten more than 600 million views. Doctors have already issued cautionary statements about a variety of internet fitness fads that they claim are unproductive or harmful, including the viral abdominal weight reduction dance, putting garlic in the nose to clear congestion, and exposing the genitalia to the sun to “boost vibrations.”

In order to emphasize that the conduct shown in the videos involves danger, TikTok sometimes adds content warnings to them or completely removes them from the site.

Martyn and TikTok did not react to Insider’s request for comment, so it is unknown why the original video is no longer accessible.

Martyn has a TikTok and YouTube presence in addition to having four million Instagram followers where he shares fitness-related material. In addition, he presents a podcast called “Bradly Martyn’s Raw Talk” where Martyn discusses a range of subjects.
