The wife of the Nigerian President, Mrs Aisha Buhari says she will sustain the call for more women in governance in Nigeria.
She gave the assurance as the Special Guest of Honour at a ceremony marking the thirty second anniversary of the Association of Nigerian Women Journalists, in Abuja.
She said that her recent visit to both chambers of the Nigerian National Assembly was for the good of Nigerian women.
The First lady also commended women journalists in Nigeria for practicing their profession with dignity and keeping the government on its toes on issues concerning women.
Mrs.
Buhari added that women groups like NAWOJ, need to lend their voices to end violence against women, rape and gender based violence.
The Nigerian minister of Women Affairs, Mrs.
Paulen Tallen, said that better days awaits Nigerian women as there are efforts to end violence against women in the country.
She noted that over the years.
NAWOJ has made an indelible mark in the welfare of women and girls.
She urged women journalists in Nigeria to always look out for issues affecting women and bring them to national discuss.
The National President of the National Association of Women Journalists, Ladi Bala, said that NAWOJ was launching an endowment fund to care indigent and vulnerable children in Nigeria.
She also solicited support towards the actualization of the course.
The National President also tasked members to Increase the voice of women I’m leadership through their reportage.
In his Keynote lecture titled “Leadership with a difference, setting the pace for a better future,” the Vice Chancellor, Federal University, Kashere, Gombe state, Prof.
Umar Pate, emphasised the need for proper education of the girl child for a better Nigeria.
He said that leadership was a burden and leaders must always take responsibility.
Awards were presented to notable men and women who distinguished themselves in championing the cause of women.
Some of the recipients were the Nigerian first lady, Mrs.
Aisha Buhari, former Nigerian first lady, Mrs.
Maryam Babangida, gender friendly governors, serving and former senators, heads of agencies amongst others.
The theme of the NAWOJ @32 event was “Leadership with a difference, setting the pace for a better future.
