Father and Daughter Tragedy

Father and Daughter Tragedy

A care home assistant, Katie Davenport, fell to her death from the fire escape of a nightclub called Hey Amigos in Southport, Merseyside, during a night out with her colleagues on September 4th, 2022.

She suffered traumatic brain injuries and died 10 days later on September 13th.

The door supervisor had placed her on the fire escape at around 2 am, and when he later checked, he watched as Katie jumped from the balcony.

During the inquest, Katie’s sister Lianne Clegg read a statement revealing that the family suffered another tragic blow on the night of her funeral.

Her father suffered an epileptic fit and died hours after the service on October 14th.

In her statement, Lianne described the pain and heartache the family has gone through since losing Katie.

She spoke about Katie’s struggles with mental health and how she had recently reached a point in her life where she was confident, outgoing, and loved her job as a care home assistant.

Lianne also spoke about her frustration in trying to piece together the events of that night. She visited Hey Amigos and spoke with staff and people who were with Katie that night.

She revealed that Katie had sent a Snapchat 20 minutes before the accident, showing her happy, dancing, and laughing on the dance floor.

Katie’s partner Niall was in contact with her all night and the messages showed that she was not upset or distressed, but having a really good time.

The senior coroner, Julie Goulding, confirmed that Katie died as a result of significant brain injuries, and there was insufficient evidence to suggest that she intended to take her own life.

Katie’s funeral took place at West Lancashire Cemetery and Crematorium on October 14th, a month after her death, with her father passing away just hours after the service.
