A daycare director in Indiana was terminated after she allegedly acknowledged to administering melatonin without parental consent to put toddlers to sleep.

According to court filings, the former director of the Kidz Life Childcare Ministry at New Life Church in Cumberland faces various counts after reportedly giving melatonin gummies to 17 children aged 1 to 4 without parental consent.

According to court documents, the pastor of the church informed local authorities when he learnt that the suspected distribution of gummy candies occurred from mid-December through January.

Pastor David Faulk said police he terminated Tonya Rachelle Voris, 52, after she acknowledged to administering melatonin to several of the children, although the other employee was remained employed after the disclosure.

According to an affidavit obtained by the Indianapolis Star, Voris got the idea when a parent permitted her to use melatonin to help their child fall asleep. The affidavit claims that Voris was satisfied with the outcomes and began delivering the candies to additional children.

According to the affidavit, the investigators were given a bottle of melatonin gummy bears whose packaging indicated they were intended for children ages 4 and above. According to the label, probable adverse effects are also listed, along with the recommendation that the user receive more than six hours of sleep for optimal results.

 

Several parents reported to investigators that their children have difficulty sleeping and even got a rash.

Voris is charged with eleven charges of neglect of a dependent and six counts of irresponsible supervision by a caregiver.

After being arrested on Monday, she was freed on bond
