Eskom to implement Stage 2 load shedding from 17:00 on Tuesday

Eskom intends to implement Stage 2 load shedding between 17:00 and 22:00 on Tuesday as its power supply is constrained during peak hours.

“The onset of winter has seen increased demand and this will lead to severe capacity constraints throughout this period, particularly during evening and morning peaks.

“Unfortunately, this would generally require the implementation of load shedding during the evening peaks… with the possibility of higher stages should any further generation unit breakdowns occur before then,” said Eskom.

A unit each at Arnot, Grootvlei and Matla Power Stations tripped or were taken offline for repairs since last night while two units – one each at Kriel and Grootvlei – were returned to service.

Two more units are expected to return to service by Tuesday afternoon. As things stand, 3049MW of capacity is unavailable due to planned maintenance and a further 15 762MW is unavailable due to breakdowns.
