Eskom has announced that Stage 5 load shedding would begin at 12:00 on Tuesday, January 31 and continue until 21:00 tonight.
“Thereafter, stage 6 load shedding will be implemented until 05:00 tomorrow morning (1 February),” stated the utility.
Eskom noted, “Stage 5 load shedding will then be implemented continuously beginning at 05:00 on Wednesday until further notice.”
Eskom stated that the necessity to advance load shedding from Stage 4 to Stage 3 was due to the failure of six producing units in the preceding twenty-four hours.
Each generating unit at Duvha and Hendrina has not yet returned to service, according to the business.
Additionally, a generating unit at Matla and Amot had been reinstated. The recovery of a generating unit is delayed at Duvha, Jendal, Grootvlei, and Kriel power stations.”

Meanwhile, in response to Eskom’s announcement, the City of Cape Town has revised its weekend plan.
Customers of the City of Cape Town are currently suffering Stage 4 load shedding till 22:00, followed by Stage 6 from 22:00 to 05:00 on Wednesday.
The fourth stage will be in place from 05:00 to 22:00 on Wednesday, followed by the fifth stage from 22:00 to 05:00 on Thursday.
The same pattern will recur on Thursday evening and Friday morning, when Stage 3 will be in effect between 05:00 and 22:00, followed by Stage 4 until 05:00 on Saturday.
