End of F1 race in SA in 2023

It was confirmed on Monday that South Africa will not host a Formula One event in 2023, following reports that the Belgian Grand Prix will continue to be on the Formula One (F1) calendar the following year.

In place of Belgium, where the current F1 stop is located, there had been rumours that South Africa would host an event for the first time in 30 years.

However, the 2023 schedule, which was released on Sunday, revealed that the Rainbow Nation would not be added to the calendar.

SA Grand Prix CEO Warren Scheckter stated to BusinessLIVE: “I have seen some of the reports that have been released, with most of the information being incorrect. There won’t be a 2023 South African Grand Prix, but I’m not free to give further details.

In a statement released before the 55th running of the race, Formula One said: “Formula One can confirm that the Belgian Grand Prix will be on the 2023 calendar following an agreement to extend our partnership together.”

This week, Stefano Domenicali, the CEO of Formula One, issued a warning that speculation about the race’s demise might be hasty.

While Spa will return, it seemed as though there would be no race at the Kyalami circuit in South Africa.

The full 2023 Formula One calendar, which is anticipated to include a record 24 races, has not yet been released. There are 22 rounds in this year’s championship.

The sport stated that “further information on the 2023 calendar will be announced in due course.”
