Emma Roberts was hesitant when asked if her pal Lea Michele can read, despite the long-standing conspiracy notion that the former “Glee” star cannot read.
Andy Cohen told Roberts on Wednesday’s “Watch What Happens Live” that the biggest myth about her former “Scream Queens” co-star is that she cannot read.
Instead of openly denying the report, the 31-year-old “Unfabulous” alum used a jest to sidestep the issue.
“Well, we’ve never been in the same book club,” she began with a grin, before hesitantly adding, “No, she’s…” without completing her statement.
Roberts did, however, praise Michele, 36, by expressing her pride in Michele’s Broadway triumph as the lead in “Funny Girl.”
Michele’s inability to read has been rumored since 2017, when “One More Thing” podcast hosts Jaye Hunt and Robert Ackerman uploaded a 40-minute video debunking the rumor. They provided evidence that Michele is never seen with a pen or paper and that she frequently waits for someone else to read the winner’s name when presenting an award.
The podcasters also hypothesized that the actress-singer never learned to read because she left school at the age of eight to begin her Broadway career.
In 2018, Michele revealed she can read while playing down the claims.
She tweeted at the time, “Enjoyed READING this tweet and wished to respond.” “I am literally giggling out loud at this. Love you!!!”
In addition, she laughed about the hypothesis while delivering a lecture at a Broadway and Vine event in Napa Valley, California, the previous year.
“College is not required to work in theater. “I did not attend college, and look at me,” she said.
The online notion that I cannot read or write may have something to do with the fact that I never attended college.
