DWP announces Dominic Harris as the preferred candidate for the role of Pensions Ombudsman and Pensions Protection Fund Ombudsman

The DWP confirmed today, July 11, 2022, that Dominic Harris is the preferred candidate for the position of Pensions Ombudsman and Pensions Protection Fund Ombudsman.

The Work and Pensions Select Committee will have a pre-appointment hearing on July 13, 2022, which will determine if the appointment will go forward.

Harris is presently a Partner in the CMS law firm’s Pensions Team. He also chairs the Association of Pension Lawyers’ Investment and Defined Contribution Committee.

An impartial organisation called the Pensions Ombudsman Service was created by legislation to look into complaints concerning pension administration. It is a Tribunal public entity that is not a department of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

The Secretary of State for the Department of Work and Pensions appoints the Pensions Ombudsman on a public basis. The Office for the Commissioner of Public Appointments has overseen the appointment process as an open competition.

The Pension Ombudsman holds a full-time position and is eligible for an annual remuneration of £143,095, which is increased yearly.
