A couple involved in drug dealing was discovered with a significant quantity of cocaine while driving through Pontypridd.
Kyle Redwood, 30, and Chloe Green, 28, were apprehended by the police, with Redwood admitting to dealing drugs to sustain his cocaine addiction.
The Arrest:
The police encountered Redwood and Green in a black car in Church Village, where their activities raised suspicion after a suspected drug deal took place.
Police officers followed the car as it traveled through Treforest and Pontypridd until eventually stopping the vehicle at the Broadway Interchange.
Both individuals were detained, and the car was searched.
Seized Items:
During the search, several items were confiscated, including a grip seal bag containing cocaine, £55 in cash, mobile phones, and drug-related messages discovered upon examining the phones.
Additionally, Redwood was found to have hidden ten bags of cocaine in his underwear during a strip search.
A subsequent search of the couple’s residence yielded further incriminating evidence, such as cash, grip seal bags, and weighing scales.
Guilty Pleas and Sentencing:
In court, Redwood pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cocaine, acknowledging his involvement in drug dealing.
Green also pleaded guilty to the same charge, with the caveat that she had sent a text advertising drugs on one occasion when Redwood was unavailable.
The defense lawyers highlighted the delay in the case reaching court and the personal difficulties faced by the defendants, including mental health struggles.
Sentencing and Reflection:
The judge, Recorder Andrew Hammond, emphasized the destructive nature of the drug trade, highlighting its association with exploitation, violence, and human misery.
He noted that both defendants knowingly engaged in the trade and made a choice to involve themselves in such criminal activities.
Redwood received a prison sentence of 32 months, while Green was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, suspended for 18 months.
Green was also ordered to carry out unpaid work, attend rehabilitation activities, and pay court costs.
