Simon Cowell acknowledges he is “officially insane” for continuing to ride his electric bicycle without a helmet despite repeated mishaps.
When asked at Thursday’s Broadway opening of “& Juliet” if he wears a helmet, the “American Idol” star said, “Not yet, but I will.”
Lauren Silverman, Cowell’s fiancee, admitted that she “wishes he would wear a helmet.”
The designer of “X Factor” continued by explaining why he continues to ride the equipment that nearly crippled him in August of 2020.
“I need to be in shape, but I hate walking,” Cowell remarked, adding that he won’t ride a traditional bicycle since it’s more difficult to climb high slopes.

Two years have passed since Cowell fractured his back in three places while riding his $20,000 bicycle outside his Malibu home.

Doctors inserted a metal rod into the record executive’s back during a six-hour operation to restore his spine following the accident.
Earlier this year, Cowell was involved in another bicycle accident that resulted in a fractured arm.
In February, he told the Daily Mail, “I’m a bit crazy.” Next time, I will surely wear a helmet.
