DCS: An inmate who escaped from Pollsmoor Correctional Centre as been re-arrested

Just before midnight on Thursday, July 21, authorities caught a prisoner who had fled Pollsmoor Correctional Center earlier in the day.

Abdul Davids was located through a coordinated effort, according to the Department of Correctional Services (DCS). The South African Police Service (SAPS), the Anti-Gang Unit, the community, and the DCS Emergency Support Squad collaborated on a search team to re-arrest Davids.

The resident of Hanover Park is currently serving a three-year term for ammunition possession. He reportedly managed to escape while doing a work assignment at a workshop with six other prisoners.

Additionally, the DCS has filed a criminal complaint with the SAPS against Davids. Additionally, the offender will face internal disciplinary action, according to IOL.

The DCS said:

“The Department wishes to thank its civil and social partners for a collective effort in ensuring that the offender is back in Correctional Services’ custody. DCS remains committed to safe and secure custody of offenders.

“The Department commits itself to continue efforts to correct behaviour of inmates, with the intention to encourage discipline, responsibility, order and to rehabilitate inmates to become law-abiding citizens”
