Davis Riley and Will Gordon led the Sanderson Farms Championship by one shot

After the first round of the Sanderson Farms Championship on the PGA Tour in Jackson, Mississippi, Davis Riley and Will Gordon claimed a one-shot lead.

At the Country Club of Jackson, Riley shot a bogey-free six-under-par 66 while Gordon climbed to the top of the list with seven birdies and one bogey.

Seven players who are tied for third on five under are one behind of Gordon and Riley, who have not yet won on the PGA Tour.

Riley, the 25-year-old world number 69 who was born and bred in Mississippi and often played the Country Club of Jackson course as a kid, would have additional reason to celebrate if he were to win this weekend.

Riley stated, “I do have happy memories here personally and as a high school team we had success here.

Coming back to a location where you have fond recollections and a sense of familiarity is great.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout of South Africa and Thomas Detry of Belgium are in the chasing group on five under.

After shooting four-under-par 68s, Nick Taylor of Canada and Kim Seong-hyeon of South Korea are in a group of four players who are tied for tenth place.

After shooting 69, three shots off the lead, eleven players are one shot farther down on three under.

Brandon Wu is a member of that group, and his round included a thrilling hole-in-one at the par-three fourth hole.

One of two aces that lit up the first round was Wu’s. M.J. Daffue of South Africa added a hole-in-one to his two-under par 70.
