Due to Kieran Trippier’s ‘horrific’ foul, Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez is questionable for their match against Real Madrid.
Tuesday is the opening leg of the quarterfinals between Liverpool and Real Madrid. Nevertheless, they may be without Nunez for the meeting at Anfield after Newcastle star Trippier collided with the Uruguayan during Saturday night’s Premier League match.
To prevent Nunez from approaching the Magpies’ goal, Trippier threw his opponent to the ground with a hard slide tackle, while accidently handling the ball, as he approached the edge of the penalty area. However, Nunez landed on his shoulder during the process, requiring him to leave the field to recover.
Referee Anthony Taylor awarded a free kick against Nunez, shocking fans who took to Twitter to express their displeasure and demand the official’s removal. One supporter bellowed: “Still have no idea why Anthony Taylor awarded Newcastle a free kick after Trippier’s slide into Nunez and subsequent handball. Bald Manc b*****d.
But a third shouted, “It’s a foul since KT never touched the ball with his feet, and it’s handball.” And a third user urged that Taylor should experience the same fate as his previous counterpart Lee Mason, who resigned after his VAR error in Arsenal’s match versus Brentford.
They stated, “Anthony Taylor should retire à la Lee Mason after awarding a free kick to Newcastle for this heinous tackle by Trippier on Nez.” Jurgen Klopp expressed his amazement by Taylor’s decision and provided a concerning update on Nunez’s condition prior to Liverpool’s encounter against the Spanish giants.
A somber Klopp said: “We will see if Darwin has something on his shoulder. I honestly do not know why the referee whistled against him in that situation.
