The Depots and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) has pledged its support for the Federal Government’s decision to remove fuel subsidy.

Following their meeting with President Bola Tinubu, DAPPMAN’s chairperson, Dame Winifred Akpani, emphasized the association’s backing for the removal and highlighted the need to address the issue of petroleum product subsidy.

DAPPMAN’s Commitment to Palliative Measures

Akpani announced that DAPPMAN would contribute to palliative measures by providing between 50 and 100 mass transit buses.

These buses will be locally manufactured and will run on Compressed Natural Gas as fuel.

DAPPMAN aims to support the government’s efforts to ease the impact of subsidy removal and ensure accessibility to fuel.

Creating an Investor-Friendly Environment and Addressing Challenges

During the meeting, discussions also revolved around exploring substitutes for petrol and creating an environment conducive to thriving investments in the oil sector.

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, who led the DAPPMAN delegation, expressed that the removal of fuel subsidy signifies the president’s commitment to addressing challenges in the oil and gas sector.

Abiodun emphasized that subsidy removal would release more funds for economic development, unlock Nigeria’s potential, and drive growth in other sectors of the economy.

The National Economic Council is expected to propose interventions to mitigate the impact of subsidy removal on Nigerians.
