Dante Liang, 18, in court for alleged murder of 17-year-old at Sandton nightclub stabbing

On Monday, 7 February, an 18-year-old man was charged with murder in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court. Over the weekend, the accused allegedly stabbed a teenager to death outside a Sandton nightclub.
Dante Kade Liang’s murder charge arises from a stabbing incident that occurred on Saturday, February 5, according to Phindi Mjonondwane, a spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Gauteng.
After a brawl broke out outside Madison Avenue in Sandton, Liang allegedly stabbed a 17-year-old youngster to death.
The accused was remanded in custody until Monday, 14 February when he is expected to make a formal bail application.
As previously reported, the deceased was a Grade 11 learner at King Edward VII School (KES). He was declared dead at the scene at approximately 22:45.
The Sandton nightclub said the stabbing took place about 70 metres away from its parking lot – after the initial fight had been dealt with. “…Approximately 15 minutes later, reports that an individual arrived (he had not previously been in the venue) who confronted him,” said Madison Avenue in a statement via its Facebook page.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said witnesses pointed out the suspect to the authorities and he was arrested and charged with murder. The motive for the stabbing is part of the investigation.

“The motive of the murder cannot be confirmed at this stage as investigations are underway,” said the police spokesperson.
