Cuban Foreign Affairs Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla pays a courtesy call to President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi

President Uhuru Kenyatta met with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, who paid him a courtesy call at State House in Nairobi today.

President Kenyatta and Mr. Parrilla met to discuss a wide variety of bilateral issues of importance to Kenya and Cuba, including the safe return of the Cuban doctors kidnapped in Kenya by Al Shabaab in 2019.

President Kenyatta reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to achieving the release of the Cuban doctors detained in Somalia.

During the meeting, the Head of State and Minister Parrilla commended Kenya and Cuba’s fraternal relations.

President Kenyatta expressed gratitude for Cuba’s assistance in the training of Kenyan doctors and emphasised Kenya’s value of collaboration with the Caribbean nation.

“I just want to say that we value your support and reiterate that Cuba has a true friend in Kenya. We will always stand in solidarity with you in whatever fora at the multilateral level,” President Kenyatta said.

Cuba’s Foreign Minister, for his part, commended President Kenyatta for his commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

Mr. Parrilla, accompanied by Cuban Ambassador to Kenya Juan Manuel Rodriguez Vazquez, stated that the two nations will continue to collaborate to improve bilateral ties at all levels.

He conveyed a special message from Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel to President Kenyatta.

Dr. Joseph Kinyua, Head of Public Service, was present, as was Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo, Health Chief Administrative Secretary Rashid Aman, and Mr. Patrick Nzusi, Director in Charge of the Americas and Caribbean Directorate.
