Cristiano Ronaldo is devastated by the setback.
The 37-year-old Ronaldo was in tears as cameras followed him down the tunnel following Portugal’s 1-0 loss to Morocco in the World Cup quarterfinals.
It was Ronaldo’s last World Cup match, as he will be 41 years old in 2026. After being removed from the starting lineup for Portugal’s last two games, it would be surprising to see Ronaldo at Euro 2024.
Ronaldo entered the game in the second half, but failed to have a significant impact; his best opportunity came in stoppage time, but Yassine Bonunu stopped it at the near post.
Ronaldo was a lightning rod for controversy prior to and during the World Cup, as his contract with Manchester United was terminated when he criticized the club in an interview with Piers Morgan. According to reports, his next move will be to join the Saudi Arabian team Al-Nassr.
If that is actually the case, then this was Ronaldo’s last opportunity to perform on the international arena.
