Continuous AI-Generated ‘Seinfeld’ Parody Has Nearly 171,000 Twitch Followers

A perpetual AI-generated parody of Seinfeld has acquired roughly 171,000 fans on Twitch.

Since its initial broadcast on December 14, the stream has been playing nonstop and is nearly entirely created by algorithms. Nothing, Forever is a reference to the 1990s sitcom’s reputation as a “show about nothing.”

The show, created by Skyler Hartle and Brian Habersberger, combines machine learning, generative algorithms, and cloud services with OpenAI’s GPT-3 language model to create a Seinfeld spoof.

Nothing, Forever contains animated renditions of the main Seinfeld ensemble, including Jerry, Elaine, George, and Kramer, but with frequently incomprehensible dialogue, aimless characters, and a poor laugh track.

Speaking to Vice about the project, Hartle stated, “The underlying impetus for this was that it began as a bizarre, off-center, ridiculous art piece. However, we worked over the years to bring it to this new location. And then, obviously, generative media and generative AI exploded in popularity in the previous couple of years.”

One of the creators explained how it works on Reddit: “We set out to create something strange, unique, and original, and this is what we came up with. Everything except from the artwork and the laugh track is generative, including conversation, speech, direction (camera cuts, character focus, shot length, scene duration, etc.), character movement, and music.”

At the time of writing, the stream has more than 9,000 watchers and approximately 171,000 Twitch followers. It seeks to acquire 250,000 followers.

Since then, viewers have posted bizarre moments from the livestream on social media. You can view some examples below.
