Cody Gakpo scored his second goal in as many games on Saturday night. This led Liverpool fans to say that he has arrived.
Before Gakpo turned the ball past Nick Pope, Darwin Nunez had put the Reds ahead against Newcastle at St. James Park. Gakpo had to wait until last week against Everton to score his first goal in the Premier League.
Gakpo’s play at the World Cup impressed Reds fans, which led Liverpool to sign the Dutch winger. But since then, he’s had trouble on Merseyside, but Reds fans are sure Gakpo will do well now that he’s scored two goals.
One fan wrote on Twitter: “Gakpo has arrived just like that. This feels more like the Liverpool we know and love.”
“Darwizzy Gakpo and Salah are both on fire right before Real Madrid comes to Anfield,” said a second. A third tweeted, “Nunez and Gakpo are really getting back in shape right before the Real Madrid game!”
And a fourth person tweeted, “It took him a little longer than Diaz to get used to Liverpool, but Cody Gakpo is starting to look like a Reds player now!”
Nick Pope handled the ball outside of the area, so Anthony Taylor had no choice but to send the goalie off. This made the Reds’ job easier.
Liverpool took their foot off the gas when they were up by one player and easily won the three points.
