Christ the redeemer statue in Brazil was struck by lightning

One of the Seven Wonders of the World, Christ the Redeemer, was struck by lightning, and a photographer managed to record the exact moment.
On February 10, in the late afternoon, a photographer named Fernando Braga captured the lightning strike and posted it to Instagram.
“Unstoppable. Never surrender. There have been numerous unsuccessful attempts to capture lightning striking the Christ statue. Days and showers went by. Although I came close a several occasions, I had never managed to picture this on the Christ statue, according to the photographer.
It’s the location I adore shooting in! I already had a very precious picture of the blessed moon for me, and now I have a picture of the heavenly lightning! Braga yelled.
On October 12, 1931, the feast day of Our Lady Aparecida, the patroness of Brazil, the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro was dedicated.
It has a soapstone interior and is lined with reinforced concrete. It has a 125-foot height and rests atop a 26-foot pedestal. The arms are 92 feet broad when extended.
The Archdiocesan Shrine of Christ the Redeemer of Corcovado was founded in 2006, on the occasion of the shrine’s 75th anniversary of dedication, by Cardinal Oscar Scheidt, the archbishop of Rio at the time.
During a global vote campaign organized by the New 7 Wonders Foundation in 2007, the Christ the Redeemer was selected as one of the new Seven Wonders of the World.
