Chelsea expresses interest in signing Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries

Chelsea will compete with Manchester United for Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries this summer.

The Blues are aiming to strengthen their backline ahead of next season, and Thomas Tuchel likes the Dutchman’s adaptability in multiple formations.

Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag is reportedly interested in bringing Dumfries to Old Trafford after being impressed with his progress in Serie A since joining from PSV Eindhoven last year.

Chelsea, though, have indicated an interest in the 26-year-old and could offer a £21 million bid, according to La Gazetta dello Sport.

The report goes on to state that the west London club’s pursuit of Dumfries, who is valued at £34 million by Inter, will be aided by talks between the two teams over Romelu Lukaku.

Dumfries has made 33 appearances in Serie A since joining the Italian giants.

He won the Italian Cup and the Italian counterpart of the Community Shield last season.

United are thought to be interested in signing the wing back, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka struggling last season and finally losing his starting spot.

Meanwhile, with Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso highly linked with transfers to Barcelona, Chelsea require another full-back.

Earlier this year, Dumfries voiced his delight since joining Inter and admitted that he idolizes the club’s former star Maicon.

He said, ‘Scoring versus Roma was a watershed personally, but I will never forget the Supercoppa, which was my first major trophy. I do not like to think I am replacing Achraf Hakimi, as we are different.

‘Inter have had incredible players on the right flank. The first one that comes to mind is Maicon, who is an example. I would like to get as close as possible to his levels.’
