After being widely exposed, the FBI finally recanted their abominable dossier that accused many Catholic organizations of harboring “anti-Semitic, anti-immigrant, anti-LGBTQ, and white supremacist ideology.” It’s another another illustration of the nation’s leading law enforcement organization’s egregious partisanship and apparent ineptitude.

The Richmond office of the FBI was tasked by the federal Justice Department to compile the target list, which was subsequently disseminated throughout the country. Former Special Agent Matt Seraphin published the story at Uncoverdc.com after receiving the information from an active-duty G-man.

The Bureau then put an end to it.

For the record, the dossier just identified Catholic organizations that continue to value the traditional Latin Mass, which was largely replaced after Vatican II in the early 1960s but is still admired for its beauty and global outlook. The G-men relied on the utterly debunked Southern Poverty Law Center for this, a group that makes a lot of money by peddling leftist hysteria.

Interestingly, the Justice Department as a whole was told to cease relying on the SPLC years ago by the then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions when it was discovered that the SPLC had been defaming Muslim reformers and mislabeling religious-freedom organizations. Has that order been covertly rescinded by Attorney General Merrick Garland?

After all, this comes in the wake of Garland’s highly political comments about using the FBI to harass parents who speak up at school board meetings, as well as the FBI’s politicized blunders during the Russiagate investigation, which turned phony opposition research commissioned by the Hillary Clinton campaign into a scandal that plagued the Trump administration for years (along with disgraceful media collusion).

Remember how it completely botched the Hillary Clinton email “investigation,” ignoring the former secretary of state’s unlawful retention of sensitive information over a period of years and her purposeful destruction of evidence?

It’s bad enough that the FBI’s efforts to combat domestic terrorism were sidetracked by this anti-Catholic charade, making them seem to be a total hoax. Even worse, it demonstrates that the Bureau (or at least the senior leadership in Washington) hasn’t even attempted to alter its ways after all of these humiliations.

Republicans in the House should look into one more aspect of how the federal government is being used for partisan purposes. Chris Wray, the director of the FBI, has to provide testimony while swearing to what steps, if any, he is doing to turn around the agency.
