Cargo plane crashes in Greece leaving 8 dead

Late on Saturday night, a cargo airplane crashed nearby the northern Greek city of Kavala.

According to state television station ERT, the disaster claimed the lives of all eight people aboard the Antonov An-12 aircraft, which belonged to a Ukrainian company.

The pilot sought an emergency landing at Kavala airport owing to engine failure, according to sources, but the plane disappeared off radar 10 nautical miles to the west and crashed some 40 kilometres from the airport.
