Canan Moodie and Sbu Nkosi excite Kurt-Lee Arendse

Cape Town – How about this United Rugby Championship back-three for the Bulls: Kurt-Lee Arendse, Canan Moodie, and Sbu Nkosi…

Such a trio would make rugby romantics swoon because they are all thrilling athletes on the field.

The Pretoria team may score an avalanche of thrilling tries, as head coach Jake White gave his backs the green light to attack during last season’s journey to the final.

Moodie is presently on tour with the Springboks after making an outstanding debut against the Wallabies in Sydney last week, while Arendse is still serving his four-week suspension after receiving a red card against the All Blacks. White may have to wait to see them line up together.

Nkosi will attempt to play himself back into Bok contention by making a big impression at the start of the URC season against the Lions at Ellis Park next week Saturday (4:05pm).

Arendse told Independent Media at the URC season opening in Midrand this week, “I believe it’s an intriguing combination, and we’re all attackers, so I’m actually looking forward to it.”

“I am ecstatic for him” (Moodie scoring a try on Test debut). He deserves the opportunity that he is seizing with both hands. He strives very diligently and is constantly eager to learn. I am ecstatic for him.”

Arendse, who is 26 years old, began his Bok career with a strong effort against Wales in Bloemfontein, followed by a try against the All Blacks in Mbombela.

Then, towards the conclusion of the contest, he tackled Beauden Barrett in the air and received a red card. He is now out of play and will not return until the last Rugby Championship Test against Argentina in Durban on September 24.

“I must admit that (the suspension) is somewhat frustrating, but I am also enjoying it. Arendse stated, “I am grateful that I had the opportunity to play for the Springboks after realizing my accomplishments.

“I must say that the environment is rather different, but quite professional — it teaches you a great deal about how they do things.”

Arendse has performed admirably with the Bulls, first as a winger and then as a fullback. So, which forward position would he choose to play?

“I don’t know! I am simply appreciating the opportunity I am receiving and making the most of it. At wing, there are significantly more defenders, whereas at fullback, there is far more space and fewer tackles. I like both… More kicking is required at fullback. The former UWC and Blitzbok standout remarked, “My first option is to run, but you have to adapt.”

“That last game we played (for the Bulls), losing in the final (against the Stormers), is not something we like to experience again. However, we learned from our errors. I must say that was not at all pleasant. But you must lose in order to win, so…”
