– Cape Town By securing the signing of Springbok tighthead prop Wilco Louw on Wednesday, the Bulls have demonstrated their commitment to transforming their scrum into a force.
The 28-year-old front-three-year rower’s deal with Pretoria has expired, but he will join the team on July 1, 2023.
Louw, a native of Ceres in the Western Cape, played for Boland at the Under-18 level and for SA Schools before joining the Stormers and then the English club Harlequins.
He spent his post-school junior years with the Bulls, where he earned a reputation for himself and was a member of the South African Under-20 team that lost the 2014 world championship final to England.
In addition to earning 14 Springbok Test caps, Louw is a massive player who is recognized for being a scrum rock.

A return to South Africa, however, will reintroduce him to national coach Jacques Nienaber. During his tenure with Harlequins, he was virtually absent from the Boks.
However, the Bulls will have to wait eight more months to utilize his abilities.
Coach Jake White will be eager to call on Louw to improve the Bulls’ uneven scrum from the past few seasons.
Since Trevor Nyakane’s departure for France, Mornay Smith has been the top tighthead, but Jacques van Rooyen, Francois Klopper, and Robert Hunt have also filled in at No. 3.
In the United Rugby Championship and Champions Cup, the Bulls will benefit from Louw’s experience playing in Europe and his powerful right shoulder.
