British PM: Queen Elizabeth “in fine shape”

Queen Elizabeth II was “in very good form” during their weekly talk earlier this week, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Saturday. His remarks came a day after Buckingham Palace reported that the 95-year-old queen has been advised to rest for a further two weeks by physicians.

She was in excellent form when I talked to Her Majesty, as I do as part of my work every week. Johnson said ITV News on the sidelines of the Group of 20 meeting in Rome.

Johnson sees the queen on a weekly basis in his capacity as prime minister. The most recent one almost happened on Wednesday.

She has to relax, according to her physicians, and I believe we need to accept and appreciate that. Everyone also wants her the best, Johnson added.

The queen had her first overnight stay in eight years at London’s King Edward VII’s Hospital last week for medical testing. Since then, the queen has kept up her employment, and she will keep doing office tasks.

She won’t be able to attend the U.N. climate meeting in Glasgow, Scotland, which starts on Sunday while she’s taking a break. She has, though, recorded a message that will be delivered to the audience.

She will also miss the Festival of Remembrance on November 13 at London’s Royal Albert Hall, which is intended to pay tribute to the men and women from the UK and Commonwealth who have fought in wars, natural catastrophes, and pandemics to safeguard and defend the country.

The queen’s “strong aim” is to attend a Remembrance Sunday event in the heart of London on November 14, according to the palace.

Elizabeth, the longest-living and longest-reigning monarch in British history, will commemorate her Platinum Jubilee next year, marking 70 years as monarch.
