Several British Airways flights departed from London Heathrow airport without passengers’ bags, causing anger and frustration among customers who have vowed to avoid flying with the carrier in the future.
According to passengers travelling to and from London Heathrow, flights to locations such as Belfast, Johannesburg, Kuwait and Lisbon went with no or only some of the bags on board.
The airline has blamed poor weather conditions and French Air Traffic Control strikes, which it says have resulted in knock-on delays that have continued into the following day.
Sophia Ashe, a BA customer travelling to Bologna, claimed that her flight was delayed by more than an hour, and no announcement was made regarding the missing bags until she arrived in Bologna.
She also stated that no one at the airport made an announcement, and she had to fill out lost luggage forms before leaving the airport.
Several other passengers have reported waiting over an hour to collect their luggage before discovering that it was not on the plane.
Dave Brett, a London-based travel blogger, said he was journeying from Berlin to Heathrow when he discovered that BA ‘didn’t know’ where his luggage was.
He claims that hundreds of passengers had issues, and the baggage support desk was ‘swamped with forms being filled in.’ Dave has had other bad experiences with the airline and called his latest experience ‘a real frustrating nightmare.’
Passengers have to fill out forms to get their bags back, and BA’s policy is to return luggage to their home address or on the next available flight.
Many passengers expressed their disappointment and anger on social media, with some stating that they were mistreated.
The airline apologized for the inconvenience caused, stating that it is working hard to deliver the delayed luggage to customers as quickly as possible.
It also said that other European airlines have had similar issues.
