Borno State empowers 152 Youths

The Borno state government under the Ministry of Youth and Sports has successfully trained 152 selected youths from Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and Jere local government.

This is in line with the 25 years development framework and 10 years strategic transformation plan of the state.

Most of the youths selected are former political thugs and other youths that have engaged in other social vices.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Sa’eed Buba said, “Since the return of democracy in 2019, there is no government that stood firmly to curb political thuggery in the state like the present administration.


Mustapha Mohammed Kano, the Director of Entrepreneur Ramat Polytechnic who is also the consultant trainer gave a breakdown of the skills acquired by the youths.

“We have successfully trained the youths in Animal fattening, Animal rearing, Business enterprise, Fishery and poultry.

“A total of 152 youths were successfully trained and it took us one month to ensure we have given them the best training they need.

We also gave them skills to source funds, manage funds and how to refund the money given to the state government and finally trained them on how to engage in E-business.


Governor Babagana Zulum, while addressing the gathering said,” I am delighted to address you today on this important event of flagging off ceremony and disbursement of cash amounting to 100 million naira.

“A successful selected 152 youths from Metropolitan and Jere local government for youth entrepreneurship and employment scheme under the Ministry of youths and sports in a view to transforming them from political thugs to potential owners of small businesses based on entrepreneur skills they have acquired.

“Under the scheme out of the total number of the beneficiaries 16 of them will get N2 million naira each while the remaining 136 will receive the sum of N500,000, in the same vein half of the grand given will be waived if the half is fully re-paid.
