Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi’s trial has been postponed until October 13, 2022

The trial of the five men charged with killing soccer star Senzo Meyiwa, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, has been continued to October 13, 2022, at which point Accused 2’s bail request will be heard.

On Thursday, September 22, 2022, Ntanzi was scheduled to submit a bail application at the North Gauteng High Court, where the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial is being held.

Tumelo Madlala, a state witness and a close friend of Meyiwa, identified Ntanzi as one of the suspected invaders Meyiwa had held against the wall at the Vosloorus home where the late goalie was shot on October 26, 2014, allegedly during a heist. This was done on Thursday, September 15.

HOW COME THE APPLICATION WAS DELAYED?

Timothy Thobane, the defence attorney for Accused 1 through 4, informed The South African that the State just submitted its heads of argument on Tuesday, September 20, at approximately 17:00, and that they also discovered revised heads of arguments.

As he sits, the judge says, “The court determined that the case must be moved since this is a difficult subject and the court has to read over all the records before the matter sits.”

BONGANI NTANZI: WHO IS SHE?

As a result of our research, we now know the following regarding Accused 2:

  • Ntanzi, 32, is a native of Phokeng in the North West city of Rustenburg.
  • He is a former miner who worked for Sibanye Gold in the past.
  • The SABC reports that Ntanzi is currently serving a 35-year sentence for a murder committed in 2014.
  • According to the statement made by the investigating officer in the case, Colonel Bongani Gininda, the accused is said to have made confessions to the police and to a magistrate.
  • Ntanzi is reportedly the only one of the five men who had no criminal history or active cases.
  • Ballistic testing showed that the gun used in the case in which he was found guilty and given a sentence was the same gun used to kill the former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper.

Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, and Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli are the other defendants.

They are accused with planned murder, attempted murder, aggravated robbery, possession of ammunition, and possession of guns while unlicensed. The five guys entered a not-guilty plea.
