Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva referred to the protesters who overran Congress as “vandals and fascists,” comparing their actions to the takeover by Trump supporters on January 6.

Invading the Congress building, the Supreme Court, and the presidential palace, Jair Bolsonaro’s far-right followers are urging the military to depose incumbent President Luiz Inacio.

Inacio, a veteran of the left who was inaugurated a week ago amid allegations that the election was rigged, has only been in office for a week.

The events’ an unnerving resemblance to the Capitol building invasion on January 6 in response to suspicions that the election was rigged by the former president Trump.

President da Silva referred to the violence as “acts of vandals and fascists” and claimed there was “no precedent in the history of our country.” He is currently in So Paulo on a state visit.

He said Bolsonaro was to blame for the invasion and said that the capital’s lack of security had not assisted the protests.

The President promised to find those who funded the movement and said that all rioters would be identified and punished for their crimes.

Bolsonaro supporters can be seen breaching the barriers and entering the structure. It happens after da Silva, also known as Lula, defeated Bolsonaro in an election in October.

Others demonstrators were gathering outside the presidential palace and Supreme Court, although it was not immediately clear whether they had managed to break into the buildings.

Since October 30, Bolsonaro supporters have been demonstrating against Lula’s election victory. A police officer who arrived on horseback was brutally beaten to the ground in shocking video of the incident.
