Bird statue sells for $100,000 as Musk bids off things from Twitter HQ

Wednesday, Elon Musk auctioned off furniture, decorations, kitchen equipment, and more from Twitter’s downtown San Francisco headquarters. A Twitter bird statue sold for $100,000.

An online auction of “surplus corporate office assets of Twitter” that lasted slightly longer than 24 hours included a 10-foot neon light in the shape of Twitter’s bird logo, which received a winning bid of $40,000, according to the Heritage Global Partners auction site.

The 631 lots included cappuccino machines, ergonomically adjusted desks, televisions, bicycle-powered charging stations, pizza ovens, and a “@”-shaped planter.

Musk stated in December that Twitter’s grave financial situation had been stabilized while he searched for a new CEO for his struggling social media site.

The volatile billionaire stated in a public chat forum at the time that without the adjustments, including the dismissal of more than half of Twitter’s staff, the firm would have annually lost $3 billion.

Musk stated that he has been “cutting costs like crazy” at the $44 billion platform he acquired.

Musk sacked over half of Twitter’s 7,500-person employees within weeks of acquiring the firm, causing worry that the company had adequate personnel to carry out content moderation and frightening governments and advertisers.

Musk stated that his plan is to drastically reduce expenses while simultaneously increasing revenue, and that a new $8 subscription service dubbed Twitter Blue would aid in achieving this objective.

With mass layoffs, the reinstatement of banned accounts, and the banning of journalists critical of the South African entrepreneur, Twitter has descended into anarchy under the leadership of Elon Musk.

Musk’s takeover was also accompanied by an increase in racist or offensive tweets, which drew the attention of authorities and drove away major advertisers, Twitter’s primary source of revenue.
