The Aaron Rodgers trade remains the biggest order of business for the Jets, but they still have other needs to address.
While some have claimed that the Jets are only a quarterback away from being a great team, they still have holes on their roster.
The NFL has now entered the next wave of free agency, with teams looking for bargains and sliding contracts back in their favour.
This is where the Jets will do most of their off-season shopping.
So far, the Jets’ only significant signing has been wide receiver Allen Lazard, who received a four-year, $44 million deal.
They also traded for safety Chuck Clark to strengthen their secondary.
However, General Manager Joe Douglas still needs to fill other positions and decide whether free agency or the draft will be the best option.
One of the Jets’ biggest needs is the centre. They do not currently have one on their roster, and while they tried to sign 49ers free agent Jake Brendel, he opted to return to San Francisco.
The Jets could return to Connor McGovern if his market does not develop, but many of the top centre options are already off the market.
Douglas may need to target this position early in the draft, but whether a rookie centre would be a good fit for Aaron Rodgers remains to be seen.
Another significant need is the interior defensive line.
The Jets wanted to re-sign Sheldon Rankins, but he took a one-year, $10.5 million deal from the Texans.
The Jets can move John Franklin-Myers and Micheal Clemons inside on passing downs, but coach Robert Saleh loves to rotate defensive linemen, and they need more depth at this position.
A’Shawn Robinson and Poona Ford are two players still available in free agency.
Running back is another area of need for the Jets.
While Breece Hall is expected to be ready for the start of the season after a torn ACL, the Jets could use another running back as Hall works his way back to form.
Kareem Hunt and Devin Singletary are two free agents who could make sense for the Jets.
Finally, the Jets also need help at tackle. They had an interest in Orlando Brown, but he landed a big deal with the Bengals.
Right now, the Jets have three question marks at the position, with Duane Brown, Mekhi Becton, and Max Mitchell all coming off injuries or health scares.
Knowing what to expect from that trio is hard, so Douglas needs to add to this group. However, the options are not attractive in free agency, and this may be another spot he wants to fill in the draft.
