BBC apologizes for failing to stop JK Rowling abuses during Hogwarts game radio talk

For allowing a trans visitor to accuse JK Rowling of transphobia without being corrected, the BBC has issued an apology.

Stacey Henley made the comments while discussing the newest Harry Potter video game, Hogwarts Legacy, on Radio 4’s PM program, which was being hosted by Evan Davis at the time.

An editor-in-chief of the video game fan website The Gamer who is transgender accused J.K. Rowling of promoting “transphobia” and a “campaign against trans people.”

JK Rowling wouldn’t state that she is transphobic, Davis retorted.

A women’s organization, however, criticized the “skewed article,” alleging that Davis had only made “perfunctory steps” to intercede.

Following the performance on Thursday, Davis said that the show “hadn’t planned it that way.”

Later, a BBC representative stated: “This is a challenging and sensitive issue that we do strive very hard to report accurately.

“However, we regret not challenging the assertions more forcefully and should have.”

Radio 4’s portrayal of the author of the Harry Potter series has drawn criticism before.

A presenter was accused of “bracketing” Ms. Rowling with sex abusers R Kelly of the US and Eric Gill of sculpture last year.

In order to create a conversation regarding people’s opinions on the game in light of JK Rowling’s ideas on gender, PM made the decision to take use of the fact that the new Hogwarts Legacy game is being published this Friday.

Trans activists have often criticized Ms. Rowling for her beliefs on women’s rights, notably her opinions on female-only venues.
