Ashley du Preez replaces injured Lyle Foster for Bafana

Johannesburg — Ashley du Preez has been called up to the Bafana Bafana team, replacing the injured Lyle Foster, who has been withdrawn due to injury.

Bafana are now in camp, preparing for back-to-back friendlies against Sierra Leone and Botswana on Saturday and Tuesday at the FNB.

Hugo Broos added several new players to his 23-man roster, including Mihlali Mayambela, Luke le Roux, and Themba Zwane (33)

Siyanda Xulu replaced Thibang Pete, who is also injured, as Bafana assembled for training on Monday morning.

Due to Foster’s injury, Bafana took to their official social media accounts on Tuesday afternoon to announce Du Preez’s presence in camp.

Chiefs tweeted, “Congratulations to Ashley du Preez for being selected to play for the senior national squad.

Foster’s absence has created a gaping hole in Bafana’s assault, especially considering that he scored in Bafana’s last match against Morocco.

Bafana lost their first Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match 2-1, extending their winless skid to four games.

Du Preez will hope to lead Bafana to victory in the two upcoming friendlies, especially in light of Chiefs’ recent DSTV Premiership triumph.

Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana’s brace led Chiefs to a 2-1 victory over SuperSport United on Saturday night, snapping a two-game losing streak.

Du Preez assisted Bimenyimana’s first goal, and since joining the Chiefs from Stellenbosch this season, he has scored two goals.

This weekend, Bafana will also be without first assistant coach Cedo Janevski, who resigned last week to become the head coach in Cyprus.

Broos has made it obvious that he will not replace his friend, instead to move forward with his local assistant Helman Mkhalele.
