Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to return to the big screen after a four-year break, starring in the action-thriller film Breakout.

The movie, which is scheduled to start filming in Eastern Europe later this year, features Schwarzenegger as Terry Reynolds, a father who embarks on a daring jailbreak to free his son, who has been framed and sentenced to 25 years in a maximum-security prison in a foreign country.

Scott Waugh, who directed The Expendables 4, will direct Breakout, and Richard D’Ovidio wrote the screenplay based on a story he co-created with Nicole D’Ovidio.

Anton, the production company behind the project, will present the plans for Breakout at the Cannes Film Market in May.

According to a statement from Sébastien Raybaud, the CEO of Anton, the company is excited to make Scott’s vision come to life with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead role.

Schwarzenegger previously took a hiatus from acting to pursue a political career, including serving as the governor of California.

However, he returned to acting in The Expendables franchise and will not be in The Expendables 4, although he collaborated with the director of Breakout.

There is no word yet on the production budget, and the project is being developed with the help of Off the Pier Productions, Cindy Cowan Entertainment, and Almost Never Films.

The latter recently produced the independent horror movie Barbarian.

At this time, there is no fixed release window or cast lineup for Breakout.

In addition to Breakout, Schwarzenegger is preparing for his TV debut in Netflix’s Fubar, an action-comedy series inspired by his early spy-comedy True Lies.

The show is set to release on May 25 and features Schwarzenegger as a CIA operative who discovers that his daughter has been living undercover as an agent for years.

The resulting clash leads to high-stakes global and familial complications.

Nick Santora is the creator and showrunner for Fubar.

Overall, this is exciting news for Schwarzenegger fans, who have been eagerly waiting for his return to the big screen.
