Armed robbers are killed in high-velocity pursuit

Following a heist and a high-speed police chase in Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal, three alleged armed robbers have been shot dead, while three others are in critical condition (KZN).

On the N2 northbound, the scene is currently in progress from the Tongaat toll plaza to the King Shaka airport off-ramp.

According to emergency service provider Medi Response, information from the scene indicates that two vehicles were used to flee the scene of an armed robbery in Empangeni and that they were travelling on the N2 motorway.

A private security firm stopped the getaway cars, which led to a chase and shootout.

Three suspects were shot and killed in the area of Tongaat Plaza, while the second getaway car was able to flee and continue travelling south.

Three further suspects in the second getaway vehicle were shot following an altercation close to King Shaka International Airport.

They are being treated by Medi Response paramedics since they are in a critical state.

According to reports, the crime scene is still, and traffic is impacted. The South African will update this article with new details as they become available.

Man Breaks Both Legs While Running Away from Robbers

In another incident, a guy fractured both of his legs while attempting to escape armed robbers on the R102 last Friday.

The 41-year-old male was critically hurt after being ran over while evading armed robbers on the R102 in the vicinity of the Palmview crossroads, also in KZN, according to Reaction Unit SA (RUSA) spokeswoman Prem Balram.

At around 7:57 a.m., passing drivers called Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) to ask for help for a pedestrian who was laying by the side of the road.

Upon arrival, it was discovered that the pedestrian had been approached by two armed thieves.

“A maroon Toyota Landcruiser struck the victim as he tried to flee through morning traffic. The incident fractured both of his legs.” Balram Prem said.
