Anambra State Polytechnic, Mgbakwu, Awka North Local Government Area, has organized a valedictory service in honour of its Pioneer Governing Council Chairman, Late Professor Chukwuemeka Oforah, formerly known as Omaliko, who died on eleventh December, 2021, after a brief illness.
During the valedictory service, which took place at the school premises, the management, staff, and students of the institution, paid their last respect to the deceased, who died on active service as the present chairman of the Governing Council of the institution.
Correspondent Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that according to the testimonies from the management and staff of the institution on the life and time of the late Professor Oforah, he achieved a lot for the Polytechnic including the upgrading of the former College of Agriculture to a Polytechnic status and national recognition, enlistment of the institution by Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, and Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFUND, among other achievements.
In his remark, Governor Willie Obiano, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Dr Emenike Ezinando described the death of the late Professor Oforah as a big blow on the state government as he contributed immensely to the achievements presently recorded in the agricultural sector, and prayed for the eternal repose of his soul.
In their separate speeches, the Acting Chairman, Governing Council, Anambra State Polytechnic Mgbakwu, Professor Eugene-Mary Nwana, and the Rector of the institution, Dr Nneka Mefoh described the late Professor Oforah as a workaholic, who throughout his days in the polytechnic laboured for the greatness and all-round success of the institution, and assured to work towards the actualization of his remaining dreams for the school.
Also speaking, the Dean Faculty of Physical Sciences, and member, Governing Council, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Professor Kingsley Nwozor lauded the achievements of the late Chairman Governing Council of the institution and advised management and staff not to allow his lofty dreams and visions for the polytechnic to die.
Earlier in a sermon, the vicar, St Mary’s Anglican Church, Nri, Reverend Canon Ifeanyi Emegwa, who officiated the valedictory service, urged Christians to always remember that they sojourn on earth, asking all to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and personal Saviour to inherit the kingdom of God.
The remains of the late Professor Oforah will be laid to rest tomorrow, Friday, February, twenty-five 2022 at his country home Abatete, Idemmili North Council Area.
