An international airplane’s turbulence injured 12 and stranded flight attendants: report

CNN reported that 12 people were hurt on a “nightmare” journey across the Atlantic Ocean, including several who were flung to the floor or crushed into the ceiling.

According to CNN, the Aerolneas Argentinas flight from Madrid, Spain to Buenos Aires, Argentina encountered turbulence en route on October 18. This caught some passengers by surprise.

According to CNN’s translation of a tweet by a passenger, “Well, there was some turbulence during which we were not advised to put on our safety belts, and everyone just took off.” Even the flight attendants were on the ground.

The passenger, identified on Twitter as @adrianceitor_, did not immediately answer to Insider’s request for comment, but wrote that the “final seven hours of the journey” were a “fucking nightmare.”

According to CNN, the airline issued a statement asserting that passengers had been instructed to tighten their seatbelts and noting that nine people were treated for “different minor injuries” and three others were kept under “careful supervision” for more severe injuries.

“The crew indicated that the seat belt indicator signs were illuminated and that the necessary announcement had been made. During the turbulent flight, the customers who were the most compromised and who had to be transferred were not wearing their seat belts “The airline noted in a Twitter statement.

Photos of the aftermath spread on Twitter, depicting food and other objects scattered around the aisles and cabin rooms. Some photographs depicted ceiling damage above passenger seats, corroborating reports that some passengers struck their heads against the ceiling.

In a statement, Aerolneas Argentinas stated that the turbulence “did not cause major damage” to the aircraft, which was carrying 271 passengers and 13 crew members.

Saturday, a representative for the airline did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
