An angry mother-of-two beat up a bar manager after her ex-boyfriend was thrown out for offering a line to a staff

A mother of two assaulted a bar manager after her ex-boyfriend was kicked out of a cocktail bar for allegedly offering a line to staff.

Drunken Patricia Challinor from Toxteth, Liverpool, hit Kellsey Sharpe, the manager of The Red Door in Chester, in the neck and then threw a glass at her.

Challinor, who was celebrating her 44th birthday, got upset when her ex-partner was asked to leave a pub for allegedly violating its no-drugs policy.

The glass barely missed Miss Sharpe and shattered on the wall instead of hitting her.

Before being asked to leave, Challinor and her ex were seen inappropriately caressing one other beneath a table while drinking Rum Punches and Espresso Martinis, according to the Chester Magistrates Court.

The mother-of-two sobbed as she admitted assault and was forced to pay £85 in compensation to Miss Sharpe.

Additionally, she was given a 12-month community order with 80 hours of unpaid labour.

Prosecutor Tanya Berridge-Burley, speaking on behalf of Miss Sharpe, said, “He was asked to leave the bar.”

‘He demanded a refund for a drink and obviously denied having any drugs. But Miss Sharpe said he had broken the rules of behaviour of the bar and its no drugs policy.

‘As they were explaining this to him, the female punched the victim with her right hand very hard and connected with her throat just above the chest area. She fell back backwards and then saw a glass being thrown towards her which hit the wall behind her and smashed.’

The victim, in her 20s, suffered reddening to her neck during the incident on July 17 and suffered ‘minor psychological harm and distress’.

Following the incident, the doormen escorted Challinor and her partner to the door where they ‘ran away’.

After contacting the city’s CCTV controllers, staff at the cocktail bar were told to phone the police.

Miss Berridge-Burley said: ‘They were advised that both the defendant and the male had been located.

‘The staff pointed to the defendant on the CCTV and identified her. It was the same female police had detained.’

Challinor was then taken to custody where she accepted, she had assaulted the bar manager but said she did not know why she had done it.

The prosecutor added: ‘She said she had been out drinking with her partner.

‘She was remorseful and apologetic.’

The court was told that Challinor had three previous convictions for three offences, the most recent being in 2008 for an unrelated matter.

In mitigation defence Peter Barnett said ‘the assault was seen as a one-off incident’.

He added: ‘She lives alone with her two children. What happened was that they had just purchased some expensive drinks when they were asked to leave after they had spent about £18.

‘She recalled pushing rather than punching the victim which may be reflected in why the reddening had cleared up before the police attended.

‘There was no injury. It was aggravated by the throwing of a glass, and it was aggravated by the victim being in their place of employment.

‘She concedes that she was drinking far too much. She accepts that she was drinking shots and has limited recall of this particular incident.’

Sentencing Challinor, JP Roy Barron told her: ‘You are obviously remorseful, and this really is out of character.

‘That lady you hit was just going about her daily work. You know you should not have been doing that. It was not fair on her.

‘If that glass had connected with someone you could have been looking at a really serious charge. Luckily it did not. We do not like to see that kind of behaviour in Chester.’
