An actress who repeatedly hit two young children and made one of them eat food while being sick on it was not sentenced to jail.

While watching after the kids, Renar Bain, 44, who starred in Indiana Jones 5 and Steve Coogan’s The Lost King, struck them in the head.

One of the kids was forced to consume food that had been dumped on the ground by Bain of Edinburgh, who also insisted that he keep eating even after he puked on his plate.

One child suffered abuse from Bain over an eight-year span, and the second child suffered abuse over a four-year span.

The actress and model, who is originally from Thailand, refuted the accusations, but after a two-day trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last month, she was found guilty of three charges of abusive behaviour.

Sheriff Wendy Sheehan, who handed down the sentence today, expressed “reservations” over a social work assessment that pointed out issues with Bain’s “understanding and accountability” regarding the crimes.

The report, according to Sheriff Sheehan, noted that Bain had attributed her actions to “cultural differences” and claimed that a relative of the children had “encouraged” them to disclose the abusive occurrences.

Bain was ordered by the sheriff to spend the next 18 months under the care of the social work division.

Through recordings of their police interviews, both kids testified in court that Bain had frequently hit them over the head when they were visiting her.

During one visit, a little visitor related how he had dropped noodles on the floor by accident and how Bain had spooned the food back onto his plate, forcing him to eat it.

The youngster added that Bain had forced him to consume the food after separating it from his vomit on two occasions when he had thrown up into his dish at the dinner table.

Through an interpreter, Bain testified before the court, alleging that the boy had been “confused” and that threatening him would have been “disgusting.”

It would have been harsh, and I wouldn’t have done anything like that, continued Bain.

The actor refuted accusations that he had a temper, slapped the kids, forced one of them to eat food that was on the floor, or forced him to eat the ill during cross-examination by prosecutor Jack Caster.

Sheriff Sheehan, however, ruled Bain guilty of three revised charges of assault and maltreatment between January 1, 2012, and May 6, 2020 after considering the available evidence.

The accusations against Bain were dropped since it was claimed that he beat both kids with a metal tube and repeatedly made one of them take a cold shower.

Sheriff Sheehan stated that Bain had abused the kids over a “considerable length of time” and that they had provided “clear and convincing proof” of the abuse.

On the Star Now website, Bain’s profile lists her occupations as commercial model, actor, TV presenter, DJ, and hair stylist.
