The American Australian Association marked its 75th anniversary on Tuesday night with the unveiling of its new Manhattan headquarters, the Murdoch Center.
News Corp executive chairman Rupert Murdoch and other notable guests were in attendance for the star-studded event. The center, which will serve as a cultural hub, is intended to strengthen the ties between the United States and Australia.
Murdoch, whose father founded the American Australian Association, praised the organization’s mission to create stronger relationships between the two countries.
He said the Association plays an important role in creating post-graduate scholarships for talented young researchers from both countries.
The opening event was attended by notable figures including US Ambassador to Australia Caroline Kennedy, Australian Ambassador to the US Arthur Sinodinos, and Australian billionaire Anthony Pratt.
The Murdoch Center, located in Manhattan, will be used to host business roundtables and conferences for American and Australian businesses, showcase the work of the association’s grant recipients, and provide resources for newly arrived Australians.
The Murdoch Center was made possible by a generous grant from News Corp and Fox Corporation, and with the support of the Pratt Foundation, according to Craig Chapman, the association’s chairman.
Chapman emphasized that the investment in the center highlights the value of freedom and democracy that the two nations share.
The American Australian Association was founded in 1948 by Sir Keith Murdoch. Its mission is to enhance cooperation and understanding between the United States and Australia.
