81-year-old Malcolm Emery was detained on suspicion of assault after two officers went his residence in an apparent case of incorrect address.

Bedfordshire Police has ruled that Mr. Emery should face no further action and has reported its handling of the issue to the police watchdog.

The former milkman with Alzheimer’s was frightened when he saw someone peering through his window at 5 a.m. on Friday and walked outside with what he believes was a walking stick to investigate.

The police had questioned what the object was, stating that it was “similar in size and shape to a rounders bat,” although officers on the scene video identified it as a stick.

The widower claimed he confronted the officers outside his property in Potton, Bedfordshire, and demanded to know what they were doing when the situation became tense.

The Bedfordshire police department has apologized to Malcolm Emery, 81, who was left assaulted and wounded after being apprehended by two female police officers.

The footage depicts an elderly man being arrested by Bedfordshire police at 5:00 a.m. on Friday.

Mr. Emery stated, “I was seated in the basement watching television.” When I saw this face, I wondered, “What the bloody hell is going on?!”

I took my dog walking stick outside. I came within 10 feet. I have not approached them at all.

“I approached to observe what was happening. I inquired as to what the hell they were doing. We had a verbal exchange.

“When I spotted the two police officers, I placed the stick at my side.” That’s the end. I have never reared it or done anything similar.

I turned around and walked backwards, and the next thing I knew, I was on the ground. The two women had immediately attacked me. I had them on my back.

“When I practiced martial arts, I was able to keep my face off the ground.” They were knelt before me. I questioned what the devil was going on.

The dementia patient’s arms appear to have sustained many cuts and bruises during the arrest.

The man being loaded into the van was detained on accusations of assaulting a first responder with a wooden instrument.

They joined my arms and placed me on the meat wagon.

The granddad was handcuffed and placed in the back of a police vehicle before being transported to the Bedfordshire police headquarters in Kempston for questioning.

They said I punched them, but I never did. They brought me to my knees.

Later, Malcom was transferred to the Bedford hospital for treatment of his forearm injuries, which were covered in scrapes and bruises.

The bandage on Mr. Emery’s right arm covers an area that may require a skin transplant, and his son Paul is scheduled to take him back to the hospital for further evaluation.

Malcolm stated, “When I informed the hospital staff what had transpired, they were shocked.” They stated that it should have never occurred.

He continued, ‘This is a terrible thing for the police to do. They attacked me from behind.

The widower told ITV that it was the first time he had ever been so terrified in his life.

Mr. Emery was reportedly referred to a plastic surgeon and may require a skin graft.

On his father’s behalf, Malcolm’s son is believed to be seeking legal counsel on his injuries.

Paul stated to ITV, “At 81 years old, he is too weak to be treated that way. It’s not like he can escape. He is scarcely able to walk. He is not going to flee.

Since then, Bedfordshire Police has acknowledged that the officers mistakenly visited Mr. Emery’s residence and issued an apology to the 81-year-old.

They said a police officer had a head injury during the confrontation when they sought to confiscate Malcolm’s cane, and they acknowledged that the complaint had been referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC).

Deputy Chief Constable Trevor Rodenhurst stated, ‘I wanted to express our deepest apologies to everyone involved in this incident, which appears to have begun with a simple case of a wrong address but quickly escalated to the point where an 80-year-old man sustained injuries to his arms from being handcuffed and an officer sustained a head injury.

We were eager to move this investigation forward as quickly as feasible for all parties.

“Today, I informed the man’s family that no further action will be taken against him in respect to the alleged attack since, after evaluating the evidence, we are satisfied that the officer’s injuries were not the result of a deliberate act. I have also expressed regret for what transpired and the damage he sustained.

The recordings were filmed by the arrested man’s grandson. Featured is the son of the arrested man.

“While it is essential that we await the outcome of any examination by the IOPC before making further comment, it is also right that we recognise where we went wrong and that there were missed opportunities to de-escalate the issue.”

In addition to continuing to offer assistance to the injured officer, we are studying the incident’s video to identify any immediate lessons in dealing with vulnerable individuals.

The police department issued a statement after videos of Mr. Emery’s detention went popular on social media.

Kayla, Mr. Emery’s granddaughter, tweeted: ‘My 81-year-old grandfather was detained at 3 a.m. because @BedsPolice had the wrong address.

He was afraid and ill, and it took ten officers and six vehicles to apprehend him. Perhaps his heart attack granted him superhuman abilities. He is in the cells, disoriented and battered as he attempts to protect himself.’

As the grandfather was arrested, two videos were captured, and in one of them his son can be heard saying, “He’s already had two strokes.” You are not improving the situation.

Officers overhear Mr. Emery’s son telling them they should not have peered through his window.

He stated, “He has issues with his brain; he has early-stage Alzheimer’s.” You’re simply making it worse. You will not look after him because he is f***ing terrified.

‘You are literally making it worse, and if he has a heart attack here, there will be repercussions.

“He’s had two strokes already. There are eight distinct tablets in his possession. You are not improving the situation.

On video, the arresting officer can be heard speaking with Mr. Emery in the rear of the police vehicle.

She stated, “Sir, I gave you several opportunities to stop; the handcuffs were applied because you assaulted my colleague.” No of your age, please do not assault someone. Simply because he is 81 years old…

The son interrupted the officer and scolded him of wasting everyone’s time.

Two cops responded to the incorrect address after receiving a call about a disturbance.

The officer said, ‘That is irrelevant. In addition, you are wasting my time. A person’s age of 81 does not give them the right to abuse others.

Mr. Emery was then asked who he assaulted, to which he responded that he had never touched anyone; however, his son pointed out that he might not recall.

The son stated, “You’ve got people staring at you and thinking you’re a bunch of f***ing fools because you’ve got ten police officers and four vehicles arresting an 81-year-old man who could possibly have a stroke.”

The 81-year-old is observed stumbling into the back of a police van and wondering, “Where are you bringing me?”

He stated, “I was only watching television.” I was watching television when this information came out. You have no interest. Release my arm. I’m not a criminal.’

The arresting officer questioned the son about the wooden instrument.

She stated, “He shouldn’t have taken that outside.” I realize he is your father, but he cannot behave in such a manner in public.

The son answered, “Well, you shouldn’t be peering into his window and terrifying him to death.”

His son consults with attorneys on his behalf.
