A man obstructed traffic at an intersection in South Midwood, then fought with two NYPD officers who attempted to move him, tossing one of the officers to the ground like a “rag doll.”

The confrontation seen on film occurred around 4:20 p.m. on Friday near Brooklyn College at Avenue H and Flatbush Avenue.

The “disorderly” individual refused several legitimate instructions to vacate the highway, according to the NYPD.

When police attempted to arrest him, he reportedly became angry and began fighting.

According to the NYPD, the officer who was pushed to the ground was also assaulted in the face and had facial swelling and bruises. The second officer was not injured.

Joseph Giacalone, a retired NYPD sergeant and adjunct professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, remarked, “It appears like the police are hesitant to use any force, physical or otherwise, and that’s all thanks to the NYC Council.” I’ve seen a number of viral videos depicting the same scenario: NYPD officers attempting to apprehend a single suspect but being unable to do so due to the rules imposed against them.

Giacalone stated the officers’ good fortune.

“The outcome may have been disastrous for them. “Forget the embarrassing part, I’m speaking incoherently,” he remarked. “This young man could have done anything he desired. He tossed that officer around like a rag doll.”

The police issued a photograph of the suspect wearing a denim jacket and a sweatshirt that read “Brooklyn, New York.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
