Alicent’s wedding and ‘violent’ confrontation with Rhaenyra were cut from ‘House of the Dragon’

Episode two of the first season of “House of the Dragon” contains spoilers.
On his Instagram Story, “House of the Dragon” filmmaker Greg Yaitanes posted images of deleted scenes.
The scenes portrayed Rhaenyra’s response to her best friend marrying her father.

A filmmaker of “House of the Dragon” has stated that the wedding between Alicent Hightower and King Viserys was filmed before being cut.

Viserys (Paddy Considine) is forced to choose a new wife at the end of episode two due to the death of his former wife during childbirth. After consulting with his counselors, he ultimately reveals that he will marry Alicent (Emily Carey), his daughter Rhaenyra’s best friend (played by Milly Alcock).

This produces friction between the two girls; however, due to a time leap in episode three, the audience missed Rhaenyra’s original reaction.

Greg Yaitanes, who helmed the second and third episodes of the “Game of Thrones” prequel, reshared deleted sequences from “House of the Dragon” on his Instagram Story on Saturday.

Two images depict a confrontation between Rhaenyra and Alicent that likely occurred prior to the wedding.

According to screenshots shared by People, Yaitanes remarked regarding these images, “Two scenes that regrettably did not make the final cut, the aftermath battle between @millyalcock and @theemilycarey – both were pretty dramatic.”

The second group of images depicts Rhaenyra assisting Alicent with wedding preparations, suggesting a reconciliation.

There is a scene in which Rhaenyra assists Alicent in putting on her dress that mimics a similar situation from episode one, in which Alicent assisted Rhaenyra.

Yaitenes commented on the scene, “This scene resembled the time in episode 1 where @theemilycarey dressed @millyalcock – now with heartache.”

Tania Tyatyambo Couper, a hairstyle and makeup artist who worked with Emily Carey on the show, provided photographs of the actress prepping for the wedding scene as well as a shot of her wedding dress.

“The dress, the hair, the tiara….. such a shame it didn’t make the cut…. Cutting room floor sad times… @theemilycarey sad times indeed.. @houseofthedragonhbo why do you do me like this,” Couper captioned the image.

Carey told Entertainment Weekly’s “The West of Westeros” podcast last month that despite the large age difference between herself and Paddy Considine, which mirrors the age difference between their characters, the 19-year-old actor quickly found a common interest with her 48-year-old co-star while filming the show.

“Both Paddy and I are huge ‘Drag Race’ fans,” Carey remarked. “When I arrived on set, I’d ask Paddy, ‘Hey, did you watch the latest episode of All Stars?’ He’d respond, ‘Oh my God, sure! Let’s chat about it,’ and that’s how we’d begin each day.”

New episodes of “House of the Dragon” air every Sunday at 9 p.m. on HBO. ET.
